General Information

Description

Chemmap is a website that integrates google maps along with images and the periodic table.

Purpose and goal of the project

To create a map consisting of images of naturally occurring and synthetic materials in the world around us. By indexing the locations of these objects, one will be able to create a virtual map and chemistry exhibit that can be shared with others.
  • To excite students about science by showing them the science that surrounds them
  • To impact students' perceptions of science by showing them the science that underlies the materials they observe and use every day.

Project Specification

Chemmap is a website that integrates google maps along with images and the periodic table. So every marker on the map is associated with certain image and an element in the periodic table.

Whenever a user clicks on a marker he gets to see the related image and element.

A user uploads regular images as well as SEM(Scanning Electron microscope) images which are associated with the element in periodic table.

Also images of EXIF(Exchangable Image file format) format are used from which information is extracted. Say, for instance, latitude and longitude which is further used to locate the marker on a google map.
